Mammoth Mountain is one of the leading Four Season Resorts on the west coast, and is rich in cycling history, so what better place to hold The Mammoth 24 Hour Mountain Bike Race. Over 25 years ago The Kamikaze Downhill Race went down in the history books as The Grand Daddy-O of all downhill races. Mammoth went on to bigger and better events hosting many NORBA Mountain Bike Championships throughout the 90’s.
There’s plenty to do at Mammoth Mountain Resort, including riding one of the best designed mountain bike parks in the nation, with 80 miles of single track, rest stops with drinking water and picnic tables. You can shuttle from town to the main lodge at Mammoth Mountain, demo and rent many different bikes, and the Adventure Center at the lodge has certified bike mechanics to handle any bike repairs.
We designed the Mammoth 24 Hour Mountain Bike race course with relatively low climbing because of the base elevation of 8,413 ft. The course has very good flow but will be a true test of endurance and experience. With solos and teams alike, you will be tested against the elements with some of the top endurance racers in the nation. The course is 95% single track with lots of room to pass, is 9.45 miles long, with 850 feet of elevation gain per lap, and 802 feet of loss. Lap times for 24 hour team riders should be around 1:05, with fast lap times around 50 minutes. Solo 24 hour lap times should be around 55 minutes for fast riders, while solo 8 hour lap times should be around 45 minutes.
