Family and friends. The very foundation of a happy and healthy life. When something takes from you one of these treasured people, your natural reaction is to fight back; to battle against whatever has robbed you of the joy that vanishes with family member or friend. Brice Clark was a member of the Hp family since 1972, battled cancer with the support of his friends and family; but it turned out to be a battle he wasn’t destined to win.

Brice Clark was an incredible individual; combining the technical skills, creativity and personality that made him a well known leader in the high-tech networking industry and the driver behind many of the innovations pioneered by ProCurve, the networking business unit within HP.

He was truly a one-of-a-kind member of the HP family. On October 24th, 2005, ProCurve Networking lost a dear friend, a member of the family, to cancer; and we decided to fight back. With Brice’s passing, the opportunity to work with Jim Northey and help sponsor the Coolest 24 Race against Cancer seemed like the perfect way to channel our energy and our contributions to fight cancer.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve had a few more members of the ProCurve family engage in their own fight against cancer. While most of them have won their battles so far, we found out this past week that another member of ProCurve family has been given only a couple of months left in his battle with cancer. Losing even one more friends to cancer is too high a price.

Cancer is a battle we all need to stay engaged in; fighting it with whatever weapons we can find. Contributions of time and money should be the easy part for all of us; time and money are much easier to part with than another friend lost to cancer. And so the friends and family at PRoCurve Networking join together for another year to sponsor the Coolest 24 Race Against Cancer. It’s a race we all need to win.

The Brice Clark Courage award each year is giving to an individual that has battled against all odds fighting cancer. Brice Clark 2006, Pam Grant 2007, Brittany Randle 2008, Mark “Moe” Milleza 2009

Christie Goodfellow 2010, Emily Tate 2011.
